We are the UCLA Formula Zero Hercuclas Racing Team. We aim to promote green technologies by offering student engineers design and practical opportunities in a competitive racing environment. We are in the process of designing/building a new kart powered by hydrogen to hopefully win the Formula Zero Championship. The purpose of this competition is to generate interest in fuel-cell technology and to show the public that the hydrogen fuel cell is clean, safe, and fast! |

Since the beginning of this school year, we’ve been fortunate to bring several new faces onto the team. Additionally, within a week of receiving our CAN driver, a device used to communicate with the fuel cell, we had our fuel cell up and running. We are looking forward to bringing in even more new recruits, and teaching them about the team and giving them some hands on experience while we build the new kart. |

Students build hydrogen-powered go-kart
HercUCLAs members gear up for their next race in May, developing the technology of an alternative form of energy Behind the driver’s seat of a hydrogen-powered race kart sits the fuel cell, a block of machinery that makes the whole thing go. Just 11 days before competing in an international kart race, the UCLA team still had not received its fuel cell in the mail. |

UCLA HercUCLAs recently participated in Formula Zero's first race of the 2008 season in Rotterdam, Netherlands. We got off the line in the sprint race, but our kart suffered an electrical failure and could not finish. With the next scheduled race in South Carolina, we're looking to use that home field advantage to upset the leading teams. Right now, we're focusing on increasing our team's exposure at the Santa Monica Alternative Car Expo held this weekend. Want to Donate? Please Visit Our UCLA Giving Site! |
